Our Leaders

The Resolved Church follows a plurality of elders form of church leadership.

This means Jesus Christ is the head pastor, under whom two or more biblicaly qualified and proven men lead as servants in helping the members of the church lead and serve others.

1 Peter 5:4 “And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.”

PASTORS

Duane Smets – Duane is a pastor/elder of The Resolved Church serving in preaching, teaching and leadership development.

Duane is married and has two children. His educational background includes a B.A. in Religion from PLNU, a B.TH. from L.I.F.E. Bible College and an M.A. in Theology from Talbot School of Theology. He began serving Jesus’ church in 1998 and since then he has served as a youth pastor, college pastor, evangelist and in 2005 planted The Resolved Church. Duane loves preaching, treasures Christ, his family, Jesus’ church, and loves spending time with those who are not yet Christians.

Ron Broersma – Ron is an elder/pastor at The Resolved Church serving in wisdom, oversight and community group leadership.

Ron is married, has two children, and two grandchildren. He and in his wife Kathy have served Jesus’ church for over 30 years involving themselves in all kinds of capacities. Ron brings a wealth of wisdom and pastoral experience to The Resolved Church working with small groups and serving as an elder. He is passionate about the gospel being carried on, delights in how the gospel answers the toughest and deepest questions, and desires Jesus’ church to grow and reach as many people as possible.

James Martin – James is an elder/pastor at The Resolved Church serving as our marriage and family pastor.

James is married and has three kids. He and his wife Tracy are passionate about church planting, community, family and the Gospel. Raised in a church planting pastor’s home, James has a deep love and appreciation for the church and ministry. The gospel has transformed James and Tracy’s marriage and home and as such they are committed to loving and leading families in our community with Jesus at the center.

DEACONS

Dan Calvert – Dan is a deacon at The Resolved Church serving in managing Sunday services and leading a community group.

Dan is married to his wife Erica who joyfully serves alongside him. He has been mentored by his father in law who has served as deacon in the Presbyterian church for several years. Dan brings a humble and sacrificial spirit to all that he does loving to serve with his hands behind the scenes.

Errin Samuelsz – Errin is a deacon at The Resolved Church leading the audio and visual crew at the Resolved, as well as serving in the music worship ministry along side his wife Rachel.

Errin has a passion for using science, technology, music and art to create a place for the church to worship in spirit and in truth.

John Bale – John is a deacon at The Resolved Church leading the mercy ministry and publications at the Resolved.

John describes himself as a man addicted to God’s Grace, who loves to walking alongside and supporting the members of The Resolved as they seek out and celebrate the Glory of God in San Diego.

Gary Warkentin – Gary serves as the finance administrator at The Resolved Church.

Gary is married, has three children and four grandchildren. He has been involved in church leadership for over 30 years both in local church bodies and in Christian school financial management.

LEADERS IN DEVELOPMENT

Sean Hutchinson – Sean serves as the music worship leader at The Resolved Church and aspires to be an elder/pastor.

Sean is married and has three children. Sean has served Jesus’ church in music leadership ever since he became a Christian. Sean is passionate about music, worshipping Jesus, writing songs, pastoring other musicians, and creating times for Jesus’ church to worship together.
