Worship & The Gospel

This week is an systematic theology sermon on the topic of worship. Isaiah 42:8 and John 4:3-26 are looked at for the exegetical insight on the reason and source for worship. Special attention is given to God’s worship of himself, what it means to worship in spirit and in truth, and the significance of Jesus in worship. This sermon was originally preached on January 16th, 2011 at The Resolved Church in San Diego, CA.
Jesus Arrives In The Heavenly Hometown

Matthew Series | Matthew 21:1-17 | Pastor Duane Smets
This week is an exegetical sermon on Matthew 21:1-17 where Jesus enters Jerusalem riding on a donkey, heals people, cleanses the temple, and children worship him. In these scenes Jesus acts in the roles of king, priest, prophet and LORD which beckons our need for him to exercise those offices in our lives. This sermon was originally preached on September 19th, 2010 at The Resolved Church in San Diego, CA.
Worship Is Warfare
Hey Resolved Family, this is your Lead Worshiper, Sean, writing some thoughts to stir our souls in worship this week. The Lord has been taking a number of us through some valleys in life, experiencing pain, sickness, heartbreak, loss of life, and hard times for the soul. There is good news though, we are not alone. We have a beautifully orchestrated and Holy Spirit inspired Bible that tells of the story of God working out His redemption through His people, even when they suffer and experience the gnarliest seasons of life.
Pastor Duane passionately reminded us last Sunday of how God uses suffering to show us His glory. He uses darkness to shine His bright light. He uses the shadow to prove the sunshine. He uses seasons of despair to reach down and rescue us, and show us His love and salvation, radically in the Cross of Christ. Paul writes that our present sufferings are nothing compared to the future glory that is in Jesus when we meet Him face to face (Romans 8:18). The great men and women of faith throughout the Scriptures use worship as warfare to endure and persevere every season of the soul. When the going gets tough, the tough get worshiping.
Music as Ministry, by Josh Cass
On June 22nd, 2009 I invited Josh Cass (music director at two Acts 299 churches) to come in and do some teaching and assessments with our musicians concerning the role of music worship in a church. Unfortunately we lost the audio data from the evening but Josh graciously provided us with his notes (here below). In my personal study and experience it was one of the best and most concise teachings regarding the role of music worship as it relates to church that I’ve heard. I highly recommend Josh and what he has put together here. -Pastor Duane Smets

A Theology of Sunday Worship Service
Last fall, as a church we focused on the community aspect of our church and we started two mid-week community groups. It was great step for us and continues to pull us together and strengthen the health, maturity and mission of our church. Community groups just started back up and we continue encourage everyone to be a part of them. Now, this January of the new year we are looking at our Sunday service and making some adjustments. In light of that I thought it would be a good idea to write an entry on the unchangeable or unadjustable things in our approach to Sunday.
“Worship” by Michael Trujillo
The topic? Worship. Here is a my brief history and what I’ve learned.
I’ve been throw into the position of “worship band member” for different churches probably ever since I was 16 or 17. I’ve never really enjoyed it up until the last 3 or 4 years. It’s a scary position. Especially for somebody like me that doesn’t do very well speaking in front of more than 5 people. But one thing I’ve learned is that God will always find a way for His plan to work. Even if that meant me being a part of it (which until recently I have never really been fond of).
